If you are a beginner and want to select good and piano lessons for yourself or for your relative then this article is really going to be a great help for you. Here, we will discuss about the types of lessons available in the market, forms of learning material as well as the major aspects of a good piano lessons. I am confident that after reading this article, you will certainly be able to make an informed decision on selection of a good beginner piano lesson for yourself.

In old times, if you are a beginner then a book was the only option which was available to you. The problem is books are that they are silent and you cannot listen and understand the difference between the right tone and a wrong one.

The best way to learn piano is through a personal piano music teacher. But the problem is the price. Having a professional and good piano teacher heavily costs you. Second issue is the time. You may not be able to give time as per availability of the teacher.

However, with the arrival of internet, now it is very easy to search a good online piano learning program. An online piano learning program gives you an option to learn as per your own convenience. In comparison to a piano teacher option, it is also cheaper way of learning piano.

Introduction

There are many parents these days that want their children to learn how to do something musical. This could be vocal music lessons or it could be learning to play an instrument like the piano. People tend to feel that their children will be far more accomplished in life if they learn some musical skill. Furthermore, people tend to feel that their children will have a hobby that can carry them through the rest of life if they learn how to be musical at a very young age.

This can certainly be a good idea, but you need to be careful if you want to broach the idea to your child in such a way as to make them accept it. Generally, there are three approaches that you can take when it comes to initiating your child into music lessons.

The Hardliner Approach

Interestingly enough, the hardliner approach is actually the easiest approach to pull off. You don’t need any level of dexterity when it comes to this approach. In fact, all you need is a willingness to take a mallet and just go into the conversation swinging (metaphorically of course).

Basically, you need to announce to your child that you have decided on their music lessons. Your child might not want to go, but you should not waver in your hardliner approach once you have adopted it. If you do that, the hardliner approach instantly becomes less useful for future situations. You need to drag your kid to the first few music lessons with this approach and keep doing it until their natural enjoyment of the activity starts to take over.

The Coax Approach

The opposite strategy of the hardliner approach is the coax approach. When you are using this approach, what you basically need to do is coax your child into coming with you to the music lesson. You need to make it seem like an exciting adventure that you and your child can share together and therefore pique their interest in the topic.

When you are using this approach however, you need to avoid being overly enthusiastic about the music lessons. Children can sense false enthusiasm in their parents quite easily and are generally not fooled by it. At the same time, they can sense a lack of interest too. It is a fine line to work, but if you know how to work that line you can certainly get more success out of the coax approach than out of the hardliner approach.

Conclusion

Music lessons for children can be very rewarding if done right. If you want your child to truly benefit from music lessons though, you need to get them to the point where they are regularly attending the music classes. If you don’t do that, you can pretty much kiss goodbye any of the long term benefit that they might get out of the exercise. Keep that in mind when you are evaluating what your next move is going to be in this particular area.

This guide is intended to help new students avoid some of the common pitfalls when beginning to learn an instrument. Using these guidelines, students of any age can have successful and rewarding musical experiences and will enjoy playing music year after year.

1: Choose the right instrument

When beginning music lessons people are usually drawn to a particular tone from an instrument and will want to choose the instrument that has the most appealing sound to them. It is important to pay attention to this desire and to follow it, however the age of the student must be considered as well. Very young students such as 5 year olds will probably not have the lung capacity to play certain wind instruments and may not be grown enough to play larger instruments such as the bass. Typically the violin or the piano are the best choices to begin with when studying music, and can serve as an outstanding foundation to branch out and learn other instruments as time goes on. The ear training, coordination and balance those students learn from the violin or piano is universal to music and serves as the perfect building block for learning other instruments when they are ready.

2: Find a knowledgeable, inspiring, and enthusiastic teacher

The world is full of many music teachers. Some of them love to play music and share it with others but lack the technical understanding of the instrument to teach effectively. Some teachers are full of knowledge but they are tired out from teaching so many lessons over the years. The truth is that although music is fun, learning music can also be difficult. What students need is an instructor who completely understands the instrument so that they can help them through the technical challenges, while at the same time support and encourage them to move ahead into their next level of play. Learning in anything is never an even road. Sometimes progress will be easy and fun while other times reaching the next level of play will be slower and you may feel discouraged. The combination of a motivating and enthusiastic teacher, who is also an expert with the technical aspects of the instrument, will propel students forward into higher levels of performance and understanding.

3: Participate in performing opportunities such as recitals

When choosing a music program it is a good idea to choose one that provides performing opportunities at least once a year. Recitals allow students to not only have a goal to work towards, but it allows them to share what they have learned with an audience. The sense of accomplishment as well as the applause received from family and friends helps students to reaffirm that all their time spent on practicing is really worthwhile. Typically after a recital students will show an increased enthusiasm in their music and will be eager to dive into practicing.

4: Have a plan for implementing a practice routine

When students first begin lessons they are usually very excited and cannot wait to begin playing music at home. This enthusiasm will last for a long time for some, and others will lack motivation to practice once the novelty of playing has worn off. It is important to have a strategy to motivate children to move ahead and continue to put time and energy into their music. In our studio we give students and parents a list of 9 things that they can do to set up successful practice sessions at home. This list contains the best ideas that have worked for many families to help them achieve successful practice over the years.

5: Learn how to read music

Many teachers send their students out into the world with a good playing technique but without the ability to read music or understand music theory. For violinists this can cause problems for them if they decide to play in a youth symphony or group orchestra because they will not understand how to read their part. For piano students this lack of note reading and theory will make it take longer to learn new pieces and they will tend to perform pieces less accurately. In the beginning of lessons it is important to first set up the technique correctly and to focus on proper technique and tone production. However, once excellent technique and habits have been established then it is time to learn how to read music and explore reading new material. In our studio we make sure students learn the combination of proper playing technique as well as note reading and a good understanding of music theory. When students begin to prepare for competitions or auditions or play in a group orchestra or ensemble they have positive experiences because they can easily understand and comprehend their part.

Have fun!

Music is something that you should bring enjoyment to your life. Whether you are aspiring for a career in music or choose to play purely for fun always remember to enjoy the journey and the gift of music. It is my hope that by using these guidelines you will have the most positive musical experience possible and will continue to enjoy playing for a lifetime!

When you are starting out and the guitar hasn’t really captured your imagination yet, it can be hard to think of the learning budget you’re willing to commit to. Who’d want to say, “I want to dedicate myself to the God of all guitars, but I’m not willing to put down change any larger than for a lesson”? My father hated the idea of skimping when learning , and he sent me to a great guitar instructor; but even my idealist father began to realize that a -an-hour lesson plan wasn’t going to get me very far. To begin with, his dollars would begin to run out before I got along too far. And when you are just starting out with your guitar music lessons, getting your fingers to feel their way around doesn’t really take professional coaching. There is the feeling of self-conscious embarrassment, playing before anyone else too when you learn in a traditional setting. And what do you do when you forget a pointer the teacher gave you? Online guitar music lessons, a software application or online videos for the beginner are a deal that can’t be beat. Let’s look at some of the choices you have at your service, shall we?

For online video lessons, Jamplay is one of the top names in the business. What it is, is an online guitar website with a stockpile of 400 hours of professionally recorded guitar lessons. With that much instruction a click away, you get to skip around, and watch experts in every style of guitar playing lay down the basics in a really approachable manner – there are chord diagrams, exercises, tablature, everything. And best of all, Jamplay has instructors online to help students through rough spots. Now 400 hours is a pretty big deal; if it weren’t for the user-friendly layout they use, it would be pretty impossible to navigate the website. Thankfully though, they’ve paid attention to this, and you could easily get more value on an online guitar music lesson site like this then you could buying your own set of videos. Unlimited access goes for , and it’s hard to argue with it at a price point like that.

Next up, let’s look at what it should be like taking guitar music lessons with software you install on your computer. Jamorama has been at the top of the heap for PC-based guitar music lessons. The great thing about this package is the way it addresses the absolute beginner. Jamorama has a basic instructional method that is effective; and large well-designed books that you download to supplement the software. A couple of hundred video examples and jam tracks keep you company with everything in the book, and you get all kinds of useful support software - a metronome, guitar playing video games, a guitar tuner, and a chord instructor. The package goes for , and for the price, you truly get value.

My personal favorite though, is the Learn and Master package that consists of 25 DVDs. You can’t download it though, considering how large it is. The package is a concept of the Legacy Learning Systems program in Nashville, and the instructor on the job, Steve Krenz has a great teaching style. Each DVD contains two teaching lessons, and there are five disks that give you a full well-accompanied version of all the songs they teach you on the DVDs. Turn them on, and you have a blast playing along the with your newfound guitar playing skills. The instructional disks themselves teach you how to read music, how to strum, how to build harmony, and how to pick chords in the blues and rock styles; the recording in slow-paced, and the teaching quality is matchless. At 0, there are a steal.

Technology certainly democratizes things. Consider how difficult it was at one time to have any access to professional quality teaching without paying the full price of entry. In my book, this truly is progress.

Music teaching can really be fun, exciting, rewarding and challenging at the same time. The teachers themselves need to possess maximum levels of motivation, passion and determination in order to set a god example to students. While piano lessons give us all a chance to learn how to bring beautiful music to life through the keys, they offer us a great deal more as well. The piano offers you a chance to achieve something truly special, regardless of whether you are young or old. There are a host of benefits beyond the music that will last for the rest of your life, and make every practice session and frustrating lesson well worth it.

Piano lessons give us all a chance to really look inside ourselves and find out what we are made of. Whether we are tackling classical piano, blues piano, contemporary piano, or we want to learn to play the keyboard, the skill and dedication that it takes over a period of years is no small commitment. Really, just about anyone can learn how to play the piano. The one thing that stops those who are not successful is the level of commitment that they weren’t prepared for.

When learning piano for beginners, it’s important to choose the best instructor by considering his/her experience, educational background and accomplishments. Essentially the most frequently sought instructors will have some type of music degree or an equivalent amount of musical experience. A potential instructor should be interviewed regarding their history in music, fee specifications, length of classes, policy on skipped sessions, etc. If the learner’s schedule is especially hectic, he/she might want to enlist the help of a private tutor as opposed to a group instructor. Music lessons offered in a group will be scheduled by the instructor and will be much less flexible toward each individual learner’s schedule. This is not to say that group lessons aren’t an excellent way to learn piano for beginners because they are. Simply put, private tutors are much better for anyone with a hectic or unpredictable schedule.

Further, having a refined skill can be highly beneficial to the self esteem; even if no one ever hears you play. This is because you don’t need the recognition of others. You already have the knowledge for yourself. Thus, you tend to feel better about you knowing that you have capabilities that even you haven’t realized.

Piano lessons are definitely wonderful for learning how to play the music that you love. Regardless of whether you have a specific genre or you like to play a little of everything, the music is powerful. You are powerful when you play and you know it. As you feel the music flow through you and out onto the keys you can be transformed and it feels wonderful. Anyone can grab the best that the piano has to offer. They just need to commit to all it asks of you in return.

I would probably say that I was not the only one, who got bored looking at musical notes during a Music class years ago. Perhaps, it is because children just do not get fascinated with pages of lines and notes, colored black and white. Now, that I am no more a kid, I admit that it’s still dull to look at those stuffs and I still feel the same way.

I have nothing against reading musical notes but I would just rather sing than struggle dealing with such complicated matters. Music teaching tips might help me learn music easier, but I would also need of a very patient teacher to assist me so.

When I was in grade school, I used to be a member of a drum and lyre band. I experienced playing both the lyre and the drums and found the latter easier. However, I ended up playing the lyre. It was fun especially when we won awards in exhibition competitions. We also did caroling during Christmas holidays and played in different events and occasions.

I enjoyed playing those instruments although there were times I got embarrassed when I made mistakes. There came some instances when I escaped attending band practices because I knew I would be called by our bandmaster. I did not like the feeling of receiving special attention. Worst, I got such because I messed up.

We had our band practices a group at a time. Usually, the lyrists practiced first then the drummers, or otherwise. Then, we played in a classroom as a whole – all together. Our bandmaster used different music teaching tips and strategies to help us learn music pieces easily. What was remarkable to me was that of Psychology’s Operant Conditioning.

Does it ring a bell? Or does it sound unique? I somehow have a clue how Music is related to Psychology but the other way around, I am not really sure. But I can say it was effective in my case.

Our bandmaster gave us two options: (1) we had to perform in our exhibition drills as if we were in the actual competition-meaning having minimal mistakes as possible- so we could get home early. We used to have practices a couple of whole consecutive days and those were really exhausting; or (2) he would pull our sideburns for every mistake we would commit. The former condition is a ‘reward’ while the ‘latter’ is a punishment. Of course, we would go for the reward. After all, who would want to be punished?

There are lots of accessible music teaching tips and strategies anywhere. You can look for books at the nearest bookshop from your home or visit a fellow music enthusiast and ask for useful tips. Also, you can surf the Internet for easier access of general or specific information.

Do you want a career in music? Then musicians everywhere should read this article if you want to advance your career in music. Top lists are essential in today’s society. It’s a fun, fast and easy way to simplify a complex world. The following list, lists practices you should develop if you want to have a career in music last more than a ‘one hit wonder’. Remember, there is more than one way to get to your desired destination. From my observations of others, this list of professional practices, combine the most successful tactics of musicians who have what it takes to make it in this unpredictable music industry.

1- Make ordinary people who love music, love your music

We live in a time where music is made, heard and taken with us everywhere. We don’t leave home without our wallets or our Ipods. Just because the lives we live revolve around music, doesn’t mean that you will necessarily get your music signed to a record label just yet. Try soliciting your music to music lovers and music fans that are just like you. Talent scouts always keep an ear out for tips to come across on the streets. However, in order to get your music recognized you have to make sure that you are creating something new and fresh. 95% of the independently produced CDs out there contain regurgitated ideas that were ripped off from some other more gifted musicians. Prove to the music industry executives that ordinary music fans in your city love your music. In an executives mind, they want to give the audience what they want in a strong heavily advertise dose.

Tip: You can start by giving samples of your music on the street or at music venues. Be sure to have all your contact information on the CD or flashdrive. Also, put songs on your website (and if you don’t have a website, what are you waiting for?).
If people really love your music, they will tell others about it.

2- Play live as often as possible

People can always tell the difference between musicians who do it for the money and those who do it for the love of music. If you think about it really, you could make a living off gigs for the first few years of your music career, but you eventually hit a dead end. The truly gifted musicians who struggled and never gave up come to that bump in the road and overcome it. So take your music to the streets and perform at schools, fairs, festivals, benefits, weddings, parties, church groups—the possibilities are endless. Once you establish yourself, more and more people will come to see your play your music which then leads to paying gigs. The key is to play live and keep playing live.

3. Know your instrument inside-out.

Since the late 70’s there was a huge increase in garage bands, punk bands, rappers who just picked up on playing an instrument, or just started to sing-a-long with some friends, and then months later recorded a record. Great music and music artists were born because of this.

Prior to the late 70’s disco craze, music was made and performed by musicians who in some way or another worshiped some master bluesman, jazz player, songwriter or whatever. The appetite of these musicians was not just ‘be good’ but to be GREAT! Never settle for anything less. So think about what stage you are at RIGHT NOW, and go beyond it. Reconnect yourself to your instrument or voice. Take lessons, search the internet for your favorite song’s guitar chords and learn it. Challenge yourself beyond your limitations. You may possibly find a new sound that will make you stand out even more. Record labels love to listen to innovative new sounds all the time, in face they bank on unique sounds.

4- Copyright your music

I’m shocked at how few artists are not willing to spend a few dollars to REGISTER THEIR SONGS WITH THE COPYRIGHT OFFICE. Who in turn, are the same musicians who complain about not getting what is owed to them. You have to protect your investment, so start treating your music as a business. If you intend on creating a music career out of your music and work so hard for so long to come to find out that someone else stole your idea, you have no one to blame but yourself. It’s fast and easy. Go to www.copyright.gov

5- Promote your music to make it stand out

Promote your music by writing and designing effective promotional materials; bios, fact sheets, cover letters, press releases…Some other tips that can help musicians promote their music careers, is to make your promotional materials compelling and highly informative. List your accomplishment, quote positive reviews by fans, awards, live appearances. Organize all this information into a ‘Media Kit’, ready to be handed out at a moment’s notice. Also, research which record labels you want to send this information to and personalize each packet to the type of information the label would be interested in.

Tip: Stay away from creating any generic kits, record producers aren’t interested in what has already been done.

6- Know what record labels and music publishers you hope to sign with

Getting signed to a record label is like applying for a job. You have to have the right credentials and experience for them to hire AKA ‘sign’ you. They are not going to waste their time on candidates AKA ‘music artists’ who are not worth a second glance. Having any record label or music publisher admire your work and take interest in your music is certainly an honor, don’t get me wrong. However, don’t rush. Make sure that this label is the right match for both parties.

Tip: Questions to consider when being approached by a record label

- How have they done with your particular genre of music?

- What specific ‘points’ are they offering you?

- Who runs the label or publishing company?

- What is their reputation in the music business?

- How do you like them as people?

These and other questions are critical in making the right decision for your music career.

7 Get your own Lawyer

Being in the music industry is half the challenge. The other half is the business of getting signed. The music industry has always had, has now, and will always have, the involvement of entertainment law attorneys. The relationship between a musician, record label, publisher, publicist, image consultant and whoever will always come down to two attorneys negotiating contracts for the musician and company to protect each other’s assets.

Tip: When choosing a reputable, ethical and well respected attorney is a serious necessity for any serious music artist.

8 Musicians- Educate yourself if you want a record deal.

Musicians if you want that record deal, you better what that deal is and learn the business of the music industry. Naïve or misinformed musicians are a danger to no one but themselves. Keeping musicians in the dark has been the name of the game for years. Learn to READ AND UNDERSTAND everything you sign BEFORE SIGNING a record contract.

Dozens of stories have come up in the past decade about musicians having their label bleed their bank accounts dry, leaving YOU THE ARTIST broke! Groups like TLC, The Backstreet boys, Mary J. Bleige even Pop-Princess Britney Spears have all complained about their record label having all the control of their money. Now, there are articles, blogs and books everywhere warning artists to protect themselves. Classes and programs are offered in understand the business of the music industry. Mathew Knowles, father and manager of the group Destiny’s Child and singer/actress and daughter Beyonce Knowles, took courses in business management and music industry business before contributing to the success of the group and the his daughter. Don’t let your label exploit you!

Education is power, and the more you know, the less powerful your label will have over you and your music career. Learn about the business side of the music industry because no one will sit down and teach it to you.

A music download is a song or album available for downloading on the Internet. Downloading music first became popular with file sharing technologies such as peer-to-peer networks, with people breaking copyright laws by not paying for any of it. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) claimed that this practice was damaging the music industry, and a series of law suits led to many of these networks being closed down. However, those who support such technologies argued that the music industry said the same thing about recordable tapes and CDs, and even when recorded music came out as before then artists got their money through live performance, and that the industry should embrace the advancements in technology rather than enforce prohibitions on the practice. Very little publishable academic research has been done to clarify this form of massive consumer behavior.

There is a great deal of freely available music online, which is distributed by the copyright holders for various reasons. (For instance, some university orchestras have high-quality recordings of their performances.) This fully legitimate free music is often overlooked by the popular media and is hardly a new development on the Internet.
